Living with the Dead is a two hour workshop that will help you develop a personal ancestor veneration practice. Ancestor veneration is a way to connect and form relationships with those who have gone before us in life and death. This workshop is for anyone grieving a loss (recent or otherwise) or who experiences death anxiety, and we will use the practice of ancestor veneration to hold space for and honor our grief.
You will learn:
Who your ancestors are
How to connect with your ancestors
Which ancestors to include in your veneration practice
How to craft a practice that is culturally sensitive and not appropriative
How to craft a practice that is meaningful to you AND that you will actually follow through on
How to use this practice to hold space for your grief or anxiety about death and dying
This workshop is not a séance. Whether you believe in an afterlife or not, developing a practice or ritual of connecting with your ancestors can be deeply meaningful. Together we will move through the process of crafting our personal practices and then put them into practice through the creation of a group altar.
Some materials for the creation of the altar will be provided, and participants will be provided with a list of recommended items to bring with them in advance of the event. Refreshments will also be provided.
